Al-Mirfa central plant was initially formed in 1993 to correspond with the
instructions of H. H. the president of the UAE to improve services to the citizens
of the western sector.
The actual production of the plant began in 1995/1996, and on January 1st, 1999, the formation of Al-Mirfa Power Company was announced to include both of Al-Mirfa central plant and Madinat Zayed Power Plant as a joint stock corporation, supplying desalinated water and generating power to the western sector.
